Course Description
Join us for this 4-week storytelling course series, designed to help new and aspiring storytellers craft a compelling narrative to share. Through this course series, you’ll learn about the foundations and elements of storytelling, and have the opportunity to create, workshop, and showcase your own personal story. Each session includes a brief presentation, opportunities for questions and answers, and time for participants to work on their own stories under the guidance of our storytelling expert, Giggy Wagner. Why learn with South Suburban Stories? Sharing our stories with one another fosters empathy, which leads to stronger communication skills and improves social bonds. Storytelling helps us to make sense of the chaotic world we live in. Most of all, sharing our stories with one another is fun! Your story is important, and we can’t wait to help you share it. About Your Host Giggy Wagner holds a Master’s degree in Composition and Communication from Central Michigan University, where she specialized in the art of creative nonfiction with a focus on narrative storytelling. Though originally from Texas--and having spent significant time in Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky--she brings a touch of Southern hospitality wherever she goes. For the past 12 years, Giggy has proudly called Homewood, Illinois, home and fully embraces the Chicagoland community. At her core, she is an educator, having taught language and communication for 28 years. More recently, she has embraced a new identity: storyteller. For the past seven years, she has told stories to willing audiences, beginning at Homewood Stories and later performing at Stories R Us in Lockport. Now, as part of the team carrying forward the Homewood Stories legacy, Giggy steps into the role of host, producer, and all-around storytelling expert. A self-proclaimed overthinking philosopher, Giggy spends much of her time chasing the elusive Rainbow Connection--that Kermit sings about. She is inspired by the lovers and dreamers who fuel her passion for storytelling.
