  • What happens if I miss a lesson? Do you offer make-ups?
We do not offer make-ups if a student misses their scheduled lesson. We encourage all of our students to attend our free programs to support their music education. While we don't offer make-ups for lessons missed by the student, if your instructor is out of office, or Robin's Nest Music needs to be closed for any reason, you will be credited the value of the missed lesson(s) on your next lesson invoice.
  • Can I sit in on my child's lesson?
We welcome parents or guardians to sit in on the first lesson to get to know the process. After the first lesson, only the student and instructor are permitted in the lesson room.
  • How long are your lessons, and how often do I take them?
Our private lessons are a half-hour, one-on-one standing appointment with your instructor once per week. For example, if you choose to take your lessons on Tuesdays at 1:00pm, you'll attend your lesson every Tuesday at 1:00pm.
  • How old do you have to be to take private music lessons?
We offer private music lessons to students age 3 and up. Specific instruments may have different age requirements depending on the physical development needed to play safely, such as hand size, muscle strength, and lung capacity.
  • How do I sign up for private music lessons?
You can sign up for lessons in a variety of ways! We welcome you to use our Lesson Registration Form at any time, and a member of our staff will get back to you as soon as possible. You can also call us at (708) 740-5656 during our regular business hours and we will be happy to sign you up!
  • Do you offer lessons for adults, or just kids?
At Robin's Nest Music, we offer private music lessons for everyone! Whether you're 3 or 103, we have passionate and dedicated instructors ready to teach you!
  • Do you offer online/virtual private music lessons?
Yes! When you sign up for lessons, you will be able to choose whether you prefer in-person, hybrid, or fully remote music lessons. Please note that for beginners, we recommend in-person lessons to ensure a strong starting foundation.
  • What if I want to switch instruments, or change instructors?
At Robin's Nest Music, we understand and embrace musical exploration, and our month-to-month lesson program makes it easy! If you'd like to try another instrument or work with a new instructor, just let us know by the 15th of the month so we can help you find the best fit for your next month!
  • How much do private music lessons cost?
If you are enrolled in our private lesson program at Robin's Nest Music, you'll typically pay between $100 and $125 per month for private music lessons.
  • Are there performance or recital opportunities?
Absolutely! At Robin's Nest Music, we offer regular opportunities for our students to perform and showcase the skills they've learned through their hard work. To stay up to date on all performance opportunities, visit the homepage and join our mailing list!
  • Can I request a specific music instructor?
Absolutely! We are more than happy to pair you with the instructor of your choice, provided their schedule is aligned with your needs.
  • I don't have an instrument, can I still take lessons?
No instrument? No problem. At Robin's Nest Music, we offer a variety of instruments and accessories to fit every budget. A rent-to-own option is also available for certain instruments!
  • How do I pay for lessons? Are there additional fees I should know about?
Paying for your lessons at Robin's Nest Music is simple! The majority of our students choose to have their monthly lesson payments conveniently autodebited via ACH or credit/debit card (please note a service fee applies to lesson payments made via credit/debit card). If you prefer to pay for your lessons using cash, you must pay for your next month of lessons on the last lesson of the month. For example, to pay for lessons in July, you would make a cash payment on the last lesson in June.
  • Are there additional materials I need to purchase?
Yes, as a student you'll need a lesson book, which your instructor will recommend based on your age, skill level, and needs. Students are also expected to bring their own instrument to lessons (unless you play piano or drums, in which case we ask that you leave those at home). If you don't have an instrument, we offer both rent-to-own and purchase options at Robin's Nest Music. Some instruments (like brass, woodwinds, or strings) may require additional accessories like cleaning swabs, valve oil, rosin, or reeds. If you're unsure of what materials you'll need, please feel welcome to call us at (708) 740-5656 and a member of our staff will be happy to walk you through everything you need to start (or continue) your musical journey!
